Q: How would joining the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District and the Rodeo-Hercules Fire Protection District together enhance emergency services?
A: While no final decision has been made, joining these neighboring Districts with a long history of working together would strengthen local fire protection and emergency response across local cities and communities by increasing efficiencies and preventing further 911 and firefighting cuts – with no impact or additional costs to taxpayers.
Q: Why is this being considered now?
A: Our communities present unique firefighting and emergency response challenges, including a mixture of suburban, small town, quasi-rural and rural communities and proximity to an oil refinery, freeways, a railway, foothills, and open spaces. Ongoing drought conditions and unpredictable weather patterns, mean we should not only maintain, but dramatically improve effective response to emergencies or catastrophic incidents. Just this past 4th of July weekend, over 50 fires erupted here in Contra Costa County.
Q: Will this cost local residents and businesses more?

A: No. The proposal to join forces across these three Districts reduces bureaucracy and prioritizes 911, fire safety, and medical response services with no impact to taxpayers. Our top priority is protecting lives and property in an efficient and effective manner – every second counts when you call 911. We must:

  • Maintain and enhance fast 911 emergency response times
  • Keep all local fire stations open
  • Maintain life-saving rescue equipment
  • Reduce the risk of property damage from fires
  • Maintain professional firefighter and paramedic staffing levels
  • Prevent further cuts to 911 and firefighting services
Q: How can I provide my feedback?
